The International Singing Competition Lav Mirski was launched in 2013. The competition promotes and helps young singers in terms of their education and professional development. It is based on high professional principles of organisation and artistic quality. It keeps generating vocal excellence and presents the rich variety of vocal art, talent and creativity of young artists. The participants arrive from many countries: Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel, Croatia, Serbia, Norway, Ireland, Montenegro, Romania, Austria, Slovenia and the United States of America. The participants are young singers: students and trained artists not older than 32. More than 250 participants have taken part in the competition in Osijek. The number of participants is growing every year as well as the number of music institutions and countries that the participants come from. The professional jury consists of internationally renowned singers, vocal instructors and conductors. For the best performers, there are numerous valuable rewards provided by the partners and sponsors of the competition. Besides the financial and other appropriate rewards, the top performers are given the special award of the theatre director which enables them to take part in the opera or concert programme of the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek during the regular season. Participating in the competition provides an opportunity to present the achievements of dedicated artistic work, the performance that finally encapsulates many years of musical education, training and preparations as well as the professional opportunity to perform as a soloist. This competition is the only such competition in the eastern part of Croatia. Its programme and concept are specific and unique in the country (different musical styles and programme variety, numerous singing categories formed according to age and music literature). The competition has provided the City of Osijek with a recognisable cultural brand of high and distinctive quality that has become an important musical centre of international recognition. It is also a public cultural event since the remarkable concerts of the competition are available to the general public. Each spring during the competition, one can enjoy vocal music of the highest quality for several days in Osijek. The accomplishments achieved at the competition are disseminated further in terms of professional work of young singers, constant artistic development, experience exchange and cultural cooperation in the country and abroad.
