Head of project: Asst. Prof. Tihomir Živić
Project duration: 12 months (April 2016 – April 2017)
Project description
In cooperation with the guest researcher assistant professor dr. sc. Tatiana Kuzmic of the Slavic and Eurasian Studies Department at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Texas-Austin and with the Catholic Theological College in Đakovo, the interdisciplinary project deals with the interpretative upgrades of current scientific knowledge about J.J. Strossmayer, bringing a contemporary, computer-aided, research-critical, more critically-acclaimed, research-borne partially translated or entirely untranslated correspondent philological (epistolographic) material from Anglo-American sources (William Ewart Gladstone, John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, etc.) and / or Croatian sources in English. The purpose of the project is to publish works on the British and American perspectives on the irreplaceable theological, patronage, political and educational role of Strossmayer, in the light of the nineteenth-century revival of Croatian culture, of which he was one of the promoters in the Habsburg Monarchy.
