Dear Partners, Colleagues and Friends,

Warm greetings from HdM/Stuttgart Media University! We hope this email finds you well.

The highlights of an exchange semester in Stuttgart are certainly the small groups and the personal contact to our lecturers, the state-of-the-art equipment, the beautiful surroundings of our city, the cultural activities in Stuttgart (including our beer festival), the possibility of making friends from all over the world, our outstanding one-to-one buddy program, and all the social events organised by our Erasmus Student Network (ESN). Due to the current COVID-19 developments none of this might be possible for exchange students to experience during the coming winter semester.

Despite the fact that we are not yet able to guarantee physical mobility at HdM, we decided to now open our online application portal for winter semester 2020/2021 exchange studies. We are committed to facilitate an international experience for your students and to support them in the best way we can.

Those of your students, who cannot postpone their mobility to summer semester 2021 or winter semester 2021/2022, but wish to spend an exchange semester at our university in the winter semester 2020/2021 or plan to come to Stuttgart for the full academic year 2020/2021, are welcome to apply until 31 May 2020. Please advise them that they need to be prepared for travel restrictions, quarantine regulations and possibly also online teaching arrangements. Students might also face extra costs for travel and housing, in case the situation changes due to COVID-19 developments.

We have decided to only offer the October intake without a German Intensive Language Course in September this year.

So – here are the next steps:
1. Nomination
Please ensure that you nominate your student/s by using this short survey (one survey per nominated student):https://forms.gle/W3pEBrA7bcXGKc1z6

All nominations should comply with the number of students and fields of study stated in our partnership agreement. If you already nominated your students via email, please also submit this survey.

Should you wish to nominate one of your students for the Baden-Württemberg Stipendium, please find attached an additional form for this purpose. These nominations need to be received by us by 31 May 2020.
We won’t be able to allocate these scholarships to all students, and the committee will therefore award the stipends based on the home institution nomination information (academic and extracurricular merits, financial support needs etc). Please nominate only one student for your institution.
2. Online Application – Deadline 31 May 2020
After having received your nominations, and starting later this week, we will contact your students directly and send them a link to our online application portal.
The list of the required support documents can be found on our website
http://www.hdm-stuttgart.de/english/exchange_students/online_application
3. Study Programs
Additionally to our regular study programs in German, Stuttgart Media University offers a variety of courses taught in English.Minor programs taught in English – minimum required certified English language level B2:
Each Minor is a set one semester long program consisting of a minimum of 30 ECTS.
Please note, that each Minor is a fixed program and it is not possible to select and combine courses from several Minors.

Due to the current situation, we may not be able to offer all of our Minor programs or courses in the upcoming winter semester. We plan to offer a vast selection of English-taught courses to exchange students.

German study programs – minimum required certified German language level B2 (Bachelor courses) / C1 (Master courses):

4. Accommodation Arrangements – Application Deadline for Student Dormitories 31 May 2020

HdM does not own any halls of residence, and we therefore are part of the city-wide accommodation network of Studierendenwerk Stuttgart. Students may apply for accommodation by the deadline 31 May 2020, and complete also any following steps immediately and as advised.

All nominated students will get a manual on how to apply for accommodation, but please do underline the importance of keeping the deadlines.

In case needed, rooms may be cancelled without costs until the end of August 2020. After that date, students may cancel the contract on a monthly basis.

5. Academic Calendar for Winter Semester 2020/2021 – subject to change

We are still waiting for confirmation from the ministery about the start date of our winter semester.
The exchange semester for our Incoming Exchange students will definitely start in October 2020 and not in September.
More information will be given to all applicants after acceptance.
When organizing their stay abroad, students should keep our academic calendar in mind that we keep updating:
