/ Art / Strategic Guidelines

The main strategic plan for the development of education and artistic practices at the Academy includes quality teaching content which will enable art students to develop their own artistic expression and creative potential, critical thinking and the ability to apply the acquired practical and theoretical knowledge.

At the Academy, both the teaching process and the projects focus on the following areas: sculpture, painting, printmaking, illustration, comic books, photography, multimedia, singing, musical instruments, composition, puppetry directing, acting, puppetry, stage design, costume design and puppet technology. Therefore, the artistic production of the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek is rich and diverse. The teaching process which encompasses a wide range of artistic areas is accompanied by the artistic programmes which are intended for a broad audience and include different performing arts such as music, musical theatre and theatre, but they also include publishing and projects that deal with film, video and new media.

The Academy displays the defining characteristics of its immediate cultural and social environment. It is trying to establish the communication between the local and the global by developing and providing artistic study programmes and cultural production. Making artistic creation popular by developing and attracting the audience interested in culture is one of the most important goals of the European cultural policy. Socially responsible behaviour, cooperation with the community and the development of sustainability in arts and culture constitute important guidelines when creating and achieving the strategic goals of the Academy. The artistic production of the Academy is not confined to the conventional spaces of galleries, concert halls and theatres. Often, it can be encountered in the public spaces of the city. This ensures the two-way communication with a wide audience such as children, young people, parents, teachers and the elderly population who participate in the creation of cultural events, which is an active way of making settlements (local communities) inclusive by means of artistical and cultural practices.

The strategic development of the Academy includes the following aims and tasks: creating partnerships in order to carry out art projects; encouraging artistic work, artistic excellence and professional development of its teachers; establishing cooperation between its teachers and students during their work on art projects; cooperating with the private sector in order to acquire practical artistic and organisational skills; achieving the learning outcomes, which makes the students of the Academy who have completed their studies competitive in the contemporary labour market. In the context of the present moment and the trends in the European and international artistic practices, the Academy continues to teach the classical and traditional art forms, but it also develops the contemporary ones. Artistic expression, experiment and new forms of two-way communication between works of art and the audience are important steps in the systematic development of artistic practices within the framework of educational processes and cultural projects.

Artistic creation at the Academy is based on the creative energy and personal stamp of our students and teachers who, in order to achieve excellence in their areas of work, move the boundaries of artistic expression using meticulous and playful research; maintain professional excellence; rely on tradition while detecting the latest art trends; stay dedicated to their vocation.
