Project description
The purpose of Dionysus, the international festival of theatre academies, is to bring the medium of theatre out of the enclosed academic space, to establish relationships between this region and other European regions and to offer the opportunity for young people to be introduced to the work of other academies as well as to present their own work to the public. The first international meeting of theatre and puppetry academies was held in 2008 in Osijek. The meeting included plays, meetings and workshops with the participation of professors and students of acting and puppetry of the Academy as well as guest academies from Croatia and abroad. The Dionysus Festival is organised annually by the partner towns of Osijek and Đakovo. In the morning, guest students of various European academies attend theatre workshops and in the evening, there are student productions that compete for the award of the town of Đakovo. The International Festival of Theatre Academies – Dionysus has marked the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek and the town of Đakovo on the theatre map of Europe as the central point of contemporary theatre.
