About the Centre

The Centre for Vocal Music at the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek operates as an interdisciplinary artistic and scholarly research unit dedicated to the development, promotion, and preservation of vocal art. Primarily focused on artistic creation, the Centre integrates performance, research, education, dissemination, and promotion of vocal music, aspiring to become a relevant hub of artistic and professional activity at both national and international levels.

Within its activities, the Centre brings together experts in vocal performance, conducting, other performing arts, music pedagogy, and the social sciences and humanities, with the aim of researching solo, choral, and other forms of vocal expression. Through diverse artistic projects, artistic and scholarly research, and international collaboration, the Centre generates new knowledge and encourages innovative approaches to the interpretation of vocal music. In doing so, it provides opportunities for artistic and professional collaboration as well as continuous professional development for artists, educators, researchers, students, and the broader professional and interested public.

The Centre’s activities are particularly oriented toward the performance and production of vocal music through concert and staged productions, national and international guest appearances, festivals, and competitions, as well as professional and artistic development through lecture series, masterclasses, and seminars. Additionally, the Centre actively contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage through the performance, documentation, and research of vocal repertoire, thereby participating in the broader cultural, artistic, and scholarly discourse.

Through its activities, the Centre seeks to establish an integrated approach to the development of vocal art and scholarship, creating a platform for excellence, innovation, and the long-term strategic positioning of vocal art within cultural and academic contexts. In this way, the Centre enhances the visibility and recognition of vocal art in society while fostering the continuous advancement of artistic production, research activity, and international recognition.
