Jelena Kovačević was born in 1982 in Osijek. In 2005, she graduated printmaking at The Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb in the class of prof. Ante Kuduz. After acquiring a degree, attends Postgraduate Master’s studies in printmaking at The Ljubljana Academy for Fine Arts and Design where she graduated in 2009 in the class of prof. Lojze Logar. In 2020, she obtained PhD at the Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb under the mentorship of prof. Ante Rašić and under the co-mentorship of prof. Vera Turković. By foundation of Postgraduate specialist study of creative therapies in Osijek, in collaboration with the Academy of Arts and Culture and the Faculty of Medicine, she enrolled in art therapy study and obtained a degree in 2021.

She is employed as an associate professor at the Faculty of Education in Osijek and as external associate at The Academy of Arts and Culture. Parallel to her pedagogical and art therapy activity, Kovačević is continuously artistically active and has exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions in the country and abroad. In her artwork, she mainly uses the medium of drawings, photography and text, with which he shapes stories from areas of personal memories, subjective experiences and family heritage narratives, combining positive effects of artistic engagement and exploring relational aesthetics.
