Abstract

The topic of ‘sustainability’ is relevant to the digital and media industry in several respects:
Digital and media companies can only survive in the long term if they remain
competitive, particularly in terms of technology. The media industry has seen some
radical transformations caused by new technologies. This is achieved, among other
things, through appropriate technology management. Only a sustainable (long-term
balanced) technology portfolio can prevent companies from being pushed out of the
market due to technological innovation or even technological disruption. This article
deals with some conceptual reflections on the development of a technology portfolio
management (or technology investment portfolio management) that is intended to
ensure the long-term competitiveness and the survival of companies. In terms of setting
a strategic path for the future, the aim is to shape technology adoption behaviour
and the resulting technology adoption strategies. In the context of a sustainable technology
portfolio eight dimensions of managerial decision-making will be introduced.
