Art, culture, sports and free time of people with disabilities and children with developmental difficulties
Putting art, culture, sport and free time into a relationship, we invite artists, scientists and interested public to join the Conference and present their artistic and scientific research, knowledge, activities or practices related to the central concepts of the conference. The goal of this conference is to encourage the academic community and society in general to reflect on the presence, equal access to rights, participation or use of art, culture, sports and free time by persons with disabilities or children with developmental difficulties. In the lives of people with disabilities and children with developmental difficulties we observe art in the context of the best medium and space, as well as an expressive means by which people with disabilities show their talent and creative potential and their own artistic achievements. We see art as a therapeutic tool for people with disabilities. In the context of culture and persons with disabilities/children with developmental difficulties, it is important to emphasize that all signatories to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities are obliged to recognize the right of persons with disabilities to participate in cultural life on an equal basis with others and to provide enjoyment and access to cultural materials and goods in accessible formats, including access to television programmes, films, theater and other cultural activities and institutions. The conference aims at encouraging and enabling presentations of research and practices on the development and use of creative, artistic and intellectual potential of persons with disabilities/children with developmental difficulties. We wish to encourage reflection on specific cultural and linguistic identities such as sign language or the culture of spending their free time, as the right of people with disabilities to an equal life, respecting and appreciating the uniqueness of different cultures of life. This conference wishes to deal with sports issues in the context of people with disabilities and children with developmental difficulties. Sports and numerous sports associations have become part of the lives of people with disabilities, just like art and culture. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities also emphasizes the need to promote the participation of persons with disabilities in regular sports activities at all levels. In this regard, we invite scientists to present their research on the topic of sports and its role in the life and free time of people with disabilities. The Convention points out the importance of providing children with developmental difficulties equal access to participation in play, recreation, leisure and sporting activities, including the activities that are part of the educational system, as well as those taken in their free time. All concepts of this year’s conference theme may refer to work / education, but also to free time of people with disabilities. Therefore, free time is considered in the context of the conference theme as a concept comprising several parts of different factors determining and describing it or being its integral part. We choose a conceptual approach because free time may take a wide range of definitions, meanings, values, understandings, and its formation is influenced by personal and social attitudes, norms, forms of organization, numerous laws classifying and assessing free time. Free time also can be researched through different forms of organisation of each individual person or it may be organized in various ways, offering opportunities for spending free time in organized systems or institutions with a clearly defined purpose and goals, therefore, in forms of joint, group spending of free time. Indirectly, it is clear that the concept of free time, its role, meaning, value and function can and should be researched into in different fields of science and art.
With the central theme of the conference Art, culture, sport and free time of persons with disabilities and children with disabilities, we encourage and invite the academic and wider social community to research, show, present, propose and evaluate the concepts of art, culture, sports and free time in the context of persons with disabilities or children with developmental difficulties.
