Project description

The Department of Music Arts of the Academy of Arts and Culture, traditionally around the Christmas holidays, organizes a music festival called GLAZBOS – Music Christmas Festivities. In 2006, the festival was started by the prof. art. Antoaneta Radočaj Jerković. The festival is characterized by a variety of facilities that include concerts, workshops, lectures, round tables, performances, competitions. So far, over 80 programs have been held as part of the festival, the most important of which are concert collaborations in the joint performances of Magnificat Andrè Waignein, Carmina Burana Carl Orff with the Academies of Pécs and Novi Sad, solo performances of music works such as Magnificat Johanna Sebastian Bach, The Benjamin Britten’s World of Spirit, a night of vocal music dedicated to the oeuvre of composer Samuel Barber entitled Sure on this shining night, Magnificat J. Rutter, etc. Traditionally, the festival begins on World Choral Singing Day, held annually on the second Sunday in December, and ends with a competition to sing ensemble Christmas songs composed by academy students. Students from the Academy in Osijek and visiting artists from Pécs, Zagreb, Novi Sad and Debrecen participate in the programs. Developing the distinctiveness of J.J. Strossmayer University as a synonym for vocal music on the international music scene, Academy contributes to the presentation of quality music at home and abroad, the premiere of the festival program, the premiere of vocal and stage works, intense music education and artistic support to singers for their further careers. The launch of such a festival has further enriched this part of Croatia culturally, affirmed numerous artists and organizations, decentralized the music scene and brought it closer to a wider audience.
