Posted on Posted in Razno

Upon completion of the programme students will acquire the basic historical/theoretical knowledge about the history, application and role of the 3D rod puppet (Javanese) in the traditional cultures of different peoples, its role in the oral transmission, theatre and education. They will know the shared starting points, similarities and special characteristics of Javanese and rod puppets in the shadow theatre.

They will be able to express themselves using a simple drawing, create the character of the puppet by means of a drawing and create a 3D sketch using the basic methods of modelling. They will know the rules of the stage space adequate for rod puppets and their anatomy and animation mechanisms. They will know the similarities and differences of using 3D rod puppets (Javanese puppets which can also be used in the shadow theatre) and flat puppets that are designed especially for the shadow theatre. They will have the knowledge and skills needed for independent modelling and functional creation of simple and complex rod puppets (adequate for different age groups, from preschool children to puppet theatre for adults) using adequate materials and tools in their production.

They will be able to critically analyse artistic elements of rod puppets and the stage space as well as to research and creatively combine their own ideas guided by the principles of applied aesthetics when dealing with a specific project task.

They will be able to plan the usage of adequate materials, use appropriate tools and plan the realisation of smaller projects.

Upon completion of the programme students will know how to animate a rod puppet. They will know how to recognise and define the characters that are specific to this puppet technique and independently animate them using the basic animation techniques. They will know how to use rods to move the arms and legs of puppets, moving them on and in front of the screen.

Upon completion of the programme students will understand the methodology of including table top puppets in different educational processes for a wide variety of age groups, knowing the various means of using a better and more efficient way of using puppets as aids for the purpose of creative art therapies: puppets as means of introspection and distancing oneself from one’s own “I” without stress, overcoming problems with learning, helping personal expression and socialisation of children with disabilities, etc.
