Puppet in Education – Theatre of Objects

Posted on Posted in Razno

Upon completion of the programme students will acquire the basic historical/theoretical knowledge about the history of the theatre of objects and its place between fine arts and theatre art, being introduced to ambitious and revolutionary ideas and manifestos of the artists who reformed the traditional theatrical norms.

By means of a series of etudes, students learn about the expressive possibilities of everyday objects as initiators of play and a means of developing imagination in the play of bringing something alive, creative “recycling” and making utilitarian utensils, rejected objects or “junk” unusual.

Acquiring the knowledge about the artistic treatment of everyday and rejected objects in fine arts and theatre, students understand the aesthetic and expressive potential of objects. They are capable of creating expressive compositions for the purpose of play, imagination and cognitive skills development among children as well as for the purpose of creating theatre plays for different age groups. They understand the potential of artistic and puppetry treatment of objects in order to create abstract or anthropomorphic characters, stage set spatial definitions or the very relationship between objects the visual communication function of which is determined by the material nature of the thing, where the object acquires new expressive possibilities when in relation to another object, creating dynamic relations and forming multiple meanings.

Upon completion of the programme students will have the knowledge and skills needed for the functional and creative animation of objects. They will be able to analyse the characteristics of objects and use them to improve the character of the puppet. They will be able to recognise how the position of object in space affects the dramatic situation and suggest scenarios depending on the relations between objects. They will be able to apply the characteristics of objects to improve the character of the puppet, adapting their animation to them. They will be able to compare and use the differences of objects that did not undergo any visual interventions and those that did.

Upon completion of the programme students will understand the methodology of including the theatre of objects in different educational processes for a wide variety of age groups, knowing the various means of using a better and more efficient way of using puppets as aids for the purpose of creative individual and group art therapies.
