Puppet in Education – Sock Puppet

Posted on Posted in Razno

Upon completion of the programme students will acquire the basic historical/theoretical knowledge that deals with the history and application of the sock puppet in theatre art and education.

They will be able to express themselves using a simple drawing, create the character of the puppet by means of a drawing and create a 3D sketch using the basic methods of modelling. They will have the knowledge and skills needed for independent modelling and functional creation, understanding the rules of stage space appropriate for that type of puppets. They will understand and apply the knowledge about the sock puppet technology, using adequate materials and tools in their production.

Also, they will know how to animate a sock puppet, functionally and creatively.

They will be able to define how sock puppets function, to compare different types of animation depending on the puppet type, to detect the problem of the incorrect opening of the puppet’s mouth and to suggest the possible solutions to that problem. They will be able to independently organise shorter singing etudes and combine different movements in the stage space. They will know enough about the animation of the puppet’s mouth that they will be able to create short etudes and use different stage spaces.

Upon completion of the programme students will understand the methodology of including sock puppets in different educational processes, knowing the various means of using a better and more efficient way of using puppets as aids for the purpose of creative art therapies: puppets as means of introspection and distancing oneself from one’s own “I” without stress, overcoming problems with learning, helping personal expression and socialisation of children with disabilities, etc.
